Core Beliefs
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in 1887. The core beliefs that propel the congregation to be a witness of God's reconciling love through Christ can be expressed in three basic statements.
- Share Christ
- Build Believers
- Serve Others
We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that He left two important commandments for us to follow:
1. Love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength
2. Love our neighbor as ourselves
This is what we attempt to do. Members of our congregation, while not perfect, try to hold each other accountable while providing nurture as we learn to accept and share God's amazing grace.
What We Practice
We practice baptism by immersion as the early Christians did, but we accept other forms as dictated by other religious & personal discernment.
As Members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),
we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God,
We rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth,
At the table of the Lord we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ.
Within the universal church we receive the gift of ministry and the light of scripture.
In the bonds of Christian faith we yield ourselves to God
Blessing, glory and honor be to God forever. Amen.
